IB World School Authorisation for Essendon North Primary School

Thursday, October 13th, 2016

Dear Essendon North Primary School Community,

Over the past four years at Essendon North Primary School, we have been committed to developing our skills, knowledge and understandings as educational professionals, and as a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) to provide a significant, relevant, engaging and authentic education for all our students. Our students, families and school council have been integral to our growth and success.

It is with tremendous pride and excitement that we have been informed, this week, that Essendon North Primary School has received authorization status as an IB World School with the International Baccalaureate, effective immediately. The following excerpt was received by this school this week from Andrew MacDonald, International Baccalaureate, Chief Schools Officer:

Subject: Authorization Letter

Dear Scott,

On behalf of the International Baccalaureate (IB), it is my privilege to inform you that Essendon North Primary School is to become an authorized IB World School, Primary Years Programme (PYP). Congratulations on your considerable accomplishment.

As an IB World School, you are part of a global community of schools committed to developing knowledgeable, caring young people who will be ready to negotiate their futures successfully and make contributions resulting in a more harmonious and peaceful world. We commend your school’s educators, administrators, students and families for their active roles in choosing to offer the PYP. The positive results of this choice will become evident in your community as classes of PYP students graduate and undertake activities that enhance social, cultural and economic environments locally, nationally and, perhaps, internationally.

The IB is committed to the professional development of teachers and looks forward to welcoming your school’s PYP faculty members into the IB community of educators, where they will find collaborators and a dynamic global network of professionals committed to best practices in teaching students and in sharing those practices with each other. We invite you and your faculty to make your own contributions as an active member of this community.

Best wishes as you embark on your journey with the PYP. We look forward to working closely with you to realize our shared vision of a better and more peaceful world, achieved through intercultural understanding and respect.

The complete letter and report will be published on the school’s website, once we have received the final report.

For Essendon North Primary School this is a defining moment. It is acknowledgement of the caliber of our students, the endless efforts; commitment and dedication of our staff; the commitment to continuous improvement and strategic direction we take as a school; the incredible sense of community that we are working together with families to achieve; and most importantly; it is an acknowledgment that what we strive for every day at ENPS, for our each and every one of our students, is of the highest quality in learning and teaching, and equal to that of international standards.

I take this opportunity to thank our students, staff and community, and to acknowledge the efforts of Margo Edgar, Megan Noy and the PYP Steering Committee. As a Principal, I am incredibly proud and look forward to our continued journey as ‘global learners and leaders, exceeding expectations’ in the future.

Yours sincerely,

Scott Mullen
